WTAMU Student Wins KPMG Scholarship from ALPFA National

CANYON, Texas—West Texas A&M University student Luis Mercado is the recipient of a $2,500 KPMG scholarship awarded through the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA).

Mercado, a graduate student from South San Francisco, Calif., is working on his M.B.A. with a concentration in healthcare management.

ALPFA has awarded $1.4 million in scholarships since 2005 with the support of 157 corporate sponsors to Hispanic and/or Latino students pursuing undergraduate and/or graduate studies. At its recent National Convention Scholarships and Awards Luncheon, ALPFA awarded more than $75,000 in scholarships.

"All of us involved with the West Texas A&M University chapter of ALPFA want to congratulate Mr. Mercado on this accomplishment and on his new partnership with KPMG," Dr. Leslie Ramos-Salazar, assistant professor of business communication and decision management, said.

The ALPFA scholarships serve to encourage students who have demonstrated academic excellence and who wish to pursue their career dreams in business-relevant fields. ALPFA scholarships also help students develop a mentoring relationship with a scholarship business partner. Scholarship winners are nationally and competitively selected from more than 155 student chapters in the United States.
