The West Texas A&M University Educational Leadership Program prepares confident, skilled, and reflective leaders of education to pursue excellence and make powerful and lasting impacts in their communities. This program's degree and certification options include the Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree, Texas principal certification, and Texas superintendent certification.

Educational Leadership candidates can expect the following:

High Quality Curriculum and Experiential Learning

Meaningful and relevant online courses and hands-on field experiences are aligned to state standards to provide a balanced blend of theory, research and practice for the enhancement of each candidate’s educational leadership development.

Value – Added Instruction

Professors who are certified and experienced Texas public school leaders, facilitating instruction grounded in theory and research and informed by practice in mid-management and executive leadership positions.

Superior online instruction and field supervision is facilitated by tenure-track and tenured professors who are not only recognized as scholars in their field, but who also complement scholarship with practical experience in mid-management and executive leadership positions in public schools.

Flexibility

Candidates are permitted the flexibility to tailor their own unique program to meet their individual needs from selections of online degree and certificate courses. Courses are offered during the fall, spring, and summer semesters on both full and half semester bases during the long semesters and practicums are completed on approved campuses of the candidates’ choosing. This allows candidates to advance at their self-selected paces.

The WTAMU Educational Leadership program’s non-traditional approach to its degree and certification options coupled with scholarship and financial aid opportunities has created competitively priced programs of educational leadership to meet the diverse needs of its candidates, regardless of their geographic locations in the region, state, nation, or world.

New M.Ed. and Principal Certification Program Begins in the Fall

In alignment with the revised state standards for Texas principals and the upcoming principal TExES, the new 30-hour M.Ed. and 24-hour certification only options are designed to meet the needs of today's campus leaders. Read more...


AEL and T-TESS Training

The WTAMU EDLD program and Region 16 ESC is providing AEL and T-TESS training in June to certify participants to appraise Texas teachers using the state-adopted evaluation system. The workshops are located in the JBK and parking is availed to participants in zones 5 and 12.


Master's Comprehensive Exam

The master's comprehensive exam registration is open through June 30. The online testing window is July 12 - 15 and the on site administration is in HELC 9 on July 13 from 1:00 to 5:00.


Summer and Fall Registration

Registration remains open for all program candidates on Buff Advisor. Refer to the Advising documents posted on the Enrolling in Classes page for guidance on course selections in response to program changes.
